What does a Crime Scene Investigator do? What skills, knowledge and abilities are required? An argumentative approach to writing will be explored using crime scene investigation as a vehicle. Read-alouds, shared readings, and independent reading will be used to explore both fiction and nonfiction texts based on crime scene topics. Participants will have the opportunity to research aspects of crime scene investigation such as fingerprinting, DNA testing, eye-witness accounts, etc. Based on this research, students will develop an argumentative claim, which they will support with the evidence collected from their research. Students may bring lunch as needed (30 minutes of each class will be devoted to lunch and warm-up activities). Tuition includes a $10.00 materials fee. [20 hours]
